Wake-up…to kerbside recycling
Almost all households in Somerset can now easily recycle
through kerbside recycling. Councils have provided households
with a lightweight box made from recycled plastic.
Residents
are asked to use the box to separate materials for recycling
and place it at their property boundary every fortnight
for collection. In many areas the boxes are now collected evey week along with food waste for composting as part of the SORT IT! service - click here for more information.
Everything is sorted by hand in the lorries,
please help the collectors by keeping the different materials
separate in your box, for example by using old carrier bags.
If your box is full, extra
bags can be placed beside the box for collection.

Materials collected include newspapers, magazines, junk
mail, food and drinks cans, aluminium foil, clothes and
shoes, and vary according to your local area:
- MENDIP – paper, glass, cans, textiles, shoes and
foil.
- SEDGEMOOR – paper, glass, cans, textiles shoes and foil.
- SOUTH SOMERSET – paper, cans, textiles, shoes and
foil.
- TAUNTON DEANE – paper, glass, cans, textiles, shoes and foil.
- WEST SOMERSET – all types of paper, cardboard, glass, cans & foil.
Yellow pages can also be placed in your kerbside recycling box.
