SORT IT PLUS roll-out helps small local shops
The roll out of the SORT IT PLUS recycling service across Sedgemoor is boosting business for many small retailers.
The caddies and bins for food waste can be lined with newspaper to keep them clean, but many people are opting to buy rolls of compostable liners. This can mean a boost for many small high street and village shop keepers.
Steve Read, Managing Director of Somerset Waste Partnership, explained: “Any shop can become an outlet for our Bio-bag compostable food waste liners, but we’ve found as we roll the service out, that it’s the local village type of shop that really make a go of them. Our contractor, Viridor, sells them at a very reasonable rate so when sold on to customers they are still the cheapest liner bag-for-bag that we know of. They’ve been so successful in the areas where we already operate these collections that local shops who’ve bought once keep coming back for more.”
