Somerset supports 14th Real Nappy Week
Every year in Britain we throw away a disposable nappy mountain equivalent in weight to 100,000 double-decker buses. Real Nappy Week, co-ordinated by the Go Real campaign, encourages parents to use reusable nappies to save money and help the environment.
Somerset Waste Partnership is playing their part with a brand new information sheet explaining the options for choosing stylish nappies, saving money and being greener. They have also worked with the Somerset Waste Action Programme (SWAP) education team to produce interactive display boards. These can be loaned free of charge to community groups and children’s centres in Somerset.
“Using real nappies can save a family around £500 while their baby is in nappies and is kinder to the environment”, said Steve Read, Managing Director of Somerset Waste Partnership. “It saves up to 40% of the carbon emissions created by using disposables which can also take hundreds of years to break down in landfill sites.”
For a leaflet visit www.somersetwaste.gov.uk and click “Reducing Your Waste”. You can also request them, as well as asking about the new display boards and talks for your group by calling SWAP on 01963 351350.
