Refuse & Recycling Collections Update

Ice and snow have prevented refuse and recycling being safely collected across parts of the County last week. The advice for residents is now as follows:

• If you missed a recycling or refuse collection last week and the service is WEEKLY, then your next collection will be on the usual day this week.

• If you missed a recycling or refuse collection last week and the service is FORTNIGHTLY we will catch up as soon as possible. Please leave your refuse or recycling out for collection.

Extra recycling and reasonable amounts of extra refuse will be picked up with delayed collections. Please leave tied securely in bags next to your normal containers. If you have separate food waste collections extra should not be left next to your bin or on the side of the road – please compost if you can and, as a last resort, put any left over in your refuse bin.

Please check www.somersetwaste.gov.uk in the event of further significant snowfall.

Chair of Somerset Waste Board, Nigel Woollcombe Adams thanked residents for their patience through the disruption. “I’m grateful to the vast majority of people who have sympathised with the difficulties we faced. I’m also grateful to our collection crews who are going beyond the normal course of duty to make sure service is restored quickly.”

Garden Waste Collections - it has been necessary to suspend the collection of garden waste again this week so that the vehicles can help clear the backlog of refuse collections. Weather permitting, we will pick up again in two weeks time.
