Misuse forces removal of recycling banks
Following a series of problems caused by misuse of recycling banks at Asda in Bridgwater, store managers have asked Somerset Waste Partnership to remove the facilities from their property.
While all parties agree that the vast majority of people use recycling facilities responsibly, a catalogue of misuse by a minority has included frequent fly-tipping and littering around these banks.
“Unfortunately Asda have concluded that they can no longer support the recycling banks at their Bridgwater site,” said Councillor Stuart Kingham, Sedgemoor District Council Portfolio Holder for Environmental Support and member of the Somerset Waste Board.
Somerset Waste Partnership continue to provide extensive recycling facilities in Bridgwater, including other recycling banks and nearby Household Waste Recycling Centres.
“Local people can recycle many materials with their kerbside collections and there are alternative facilities at Sedgemoor Splash in Mount Street and Saltlands Household Waste Recycling Centre. Somerset’s recycled materials continue to find healthy markets and I urge people to continue recycling as much as possible,” Cllr Kingham added.
The recycling banks will be removed in the week commencing 19th January.
