Household Waste Recycling Centres switch to winter opening hours
From 1 October Somerset’s Household Waste Recycling Centres will switch to winter opening hours, with the majority of sites closing at 5pm instead of 8pm. Five larger sites will close at 6pm (Frome, Taunton, Poole, Saltlands and Yeovil).
Opening times remain at 8am (with the exception of the Chaffcombe Road site at Chard, which opens at 9am).
Somerset’s 18 Household Waste Recycling Centres open every day of the year except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
Hazel Prior-Sankey, Vice-Chair of the Somerset Waste Board and Somerset County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Planning, Transport and Waste said: “Our Household Waste Recycling Centres are recycling well over 70 percent of the materials taken to them, which makes them extremely effective facilities. With the darker nights drawing in we always consider safety first and close a little earlier, but because they are open almost every day they are still a service that is easy to access.”
Household Waste Recycling Centres take a wide range of materials including cardboard, garden waste, electrical items and textiles, as well as bulky items and hazardous waste.
