Plastic bottle and cardboard recycling trials to start soon in Taunton Deane
Trials for plastic bottle and cardboard collections are to be launched soon in Taunton Deane. Collection containers and service leaflets will be delivered by the Somerset Waste Partnership to all residents on the trials during the week commencing 12th May.
For the trials, residents will receive a new green box for cardboard and plastic bottles, designed to stack neatly on the existing green box that households already have to recycle their paper, glass, food and drinks cans, foil, clothes, shoes and car batteries.
The first SORT IT PLUS trial collections in Taunton Deane will start on 19th May. The trial rounds will be in the Queensway area of Comeytrowe, Langford Budville, Nynehead, the Obridge Road area and Nerrols Farm in Priorswood, the Staplegrove Road area in Taunton and West Monkton.
“The SORT IT PLUS trials will build on the success of current recycling collections in Somerset, by testing new service options and new collection vehicle designs. It’s important local residents covered by the trials understand the new system, so all will be sent a service leaflet to explain the trial arrangements and we will hold roadshows to answer questions face to face,” explained Councillor Nigel Woollcombe-Adams, Chair of Somerset Waste Partnership.
Councillor Melvyn Mullins, Taunton Deane Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services, added “I am pleased that we have reached the trials of SORT IT PLUS in Taunton Deane and will be very interested to see how they progress. A lot of people ask about adding plastic bottles and cardboard to our kerbside recycling collections and the trials will influence the collection system introduced across Taunton Deane.”
SORT IT PLUS roadshows for the trial areas will be held as follows: - Thursday 15th May 13:00 – 15:00 Brewsters Car Park Massingham Park, Priorswood Road, Taunton TA2 7RX 16:00 – 18:00 Taunton Vale Sports Club Car Park Gipsy Lane, Staplegrove, Taunton, Somerset TA2 6LP Friday 16th May 10:00 – 12:00 Nynehead Village Hall Car Park Farthings Close, Nynehead TA21 0BT 14:00 – 16:00 Comeytrowe Community Hall Car Park Pitts Close, Taunton TA1 4TY
The SORT IT PLUS trials will run from May until March 2009 and involve collection of cardboard and plastic in addition to existing collection services, consisting of: - • Weekly collections of food waste; • Continued recycling collections for paper, glass, cans, foil, clothes, shoes and car batteries; • Fortnightly collections for refuse; • Optional charged composting collections for garden waste.
Households who are part of the trials will all receive notification leaflets and a second recycling box. Refuse and recycling collection arrangements in other areas will not be affected and will continue as usual.
