SORT IT PLUS - adding plastic bottles and cardboard to kerbside recycling
Sort It Plus vehicle on round

Following successful trials, Somerset Waste Partnership is rolling out new SORT IT PLUS collections, adding plastic bottles and cardboard to kerbside recycling in all Somerset districts and introducing weekly food waste and fortnightly refuse collections in Sedgemoor and West Somerset.

Why only plastic bottles?

Until recently UK reprocessors were only able to sort and recycle plastic bottles and other types of rigid plastic packaging were not accepted or rejected. This is starting to slowly change, with some reprocessors accepting other types too, but the majority are still only able to recycle plastic bottles. Somerset Waste Partnership continues to keep this situation under review and will consider collecting other types of plastic if this can be done affordably and stable outlets secured, preferably in the UK.
