Getting the message over to schoolchildren to reduce, reuse and recycle waste is an important part of the waste management strategy in Somerset. As such, the Somerset Waste Action Programme (SWAP) has been created to provide talks, workshops and information - all free of charge. |

The team comprises of a group of dedicated Officers, who visit schools and community groups to promote waste minimisation, reuse, recycling and composting. They are based at the Carymoor Environmental Centre at Dimmer, near Castle Cary. The team provide a professional, adaptable service to support the waste services provided across the County. |

Working with schools….
SWAP work with schools throughout Somerset and offer a range of workshops, lessons and interactive activities to promote the key themes of reuse, reduce and recycling. A Christmas Decoration Workshop where pupils at Burnham-on-Sea Infants School learn how to reuse waste and make fantastic festive decorations. |

Schools are also able to 'Take the Pledge' to commit to waste reduction and become part of a network of schools taking action. Publicise your good practice through the regular Schools Newsletter; benefit from free compost equipment; and a visit to the Carymoor Environmental Trust. |

The team attend and organise community events to raise awareness
