Somerset Waste Partnership has been working since 1992; the partner authorities are Somerset County Council, Sedgemoor, South Somerset, Mendip and West Somerset District Councils, and Taunton Deane Borough Council.

In October 2007, Somerset became the first countywide area to combine waste service functions under a single joint committee of Councillors from all Somerset local authorities. Previously, the District and Borough Councils collected household waste, whilst Somerset County Council managed the waste disposal and the Household Waste Recycling Centres.

Somerset Waste Partnership (SWP) now manages waste collection, recycling and disposal services for all 228,000 Somerset homes, aiming to increase recycling levels to 50 per cent and reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.

Moving to the new Somerset Waste Partnership was a big step in improving and harmonising recycling and waste services across Somerset and making significant efficiency savings through working as a partnership.

If you have queries about your recycling and waste collections contact local council Customer Services Centre.
