Within Somerset we recycled 50.9% of our household waste in 2007/08.

  • 269,271 tonnes of household waste was created during 2007/08. 50.9% of household waste was recycled.

  • 274,800 tonnes of household waste was created during 2006/07. Of that figure, 47.3% was recycled, well above the national average of 30% in 2006/07.

 

Household Waste Recycling Centres

 

Within Somerset there are 18 Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC). :

  • 72% of the waste entering the Centres in 2007/08 was recycled.
  • 69% of the waste entering the Centres was recycled during 2006/07.
  • The highest performing HWRC in 2007/08 was the one at Middlezoy, which on average recycled 81%.

  • Glass - 5.4%

  • Timber – 2.7%
  • Food – 4.5%
