Within Somerset we recycled 47% of our household waste

Household Waste Recycling Centres

 

Within Somerset there are 18 Household Waste Recycling Centres. During 2006/07:

  • 69% of the waste entering the Centres was recycled.

  • The highest performing HWRC was the one at Bridgwater, which on average recycled 82%.

  • Garden waste – 14.6%
  • Paper (and card) – 11.8%
  • Glass - 5.4%
  • Metal – 4.6%
  • Timber – 2.7%
  • Food – 4.5%
  • Textiles – 0.8%
  • Plastic bottles – 0.5%
  • Misc – 2.4%

The national average recycling rate for 2006/07 was 30%
